Remote sensing can be defined as registration or measurements of features of objects, without being in touch with the object. The registration or measurements can be done from:

- Tower - Balloon - Rocket - Aircraft - Satellite

Usually it is the conditions for the earth surface that is registered. For example:

1) Pollution of water
2) Eruption from volcanoes
3) Motion of masses of ice
4) Damage to vegetation.

The Holy Grail of remote sensing is to automate the procedures that enable classification of different kinds of events and objects without requiring in-situ verification.

Basically we have four different techniques used in Earth observation.

In our experiment we used a multipurpose spectral imager and the first of the above mentioned techniques. The measurements were performed from a Dornier 228 aircraft flying at 10 000 feet.
