One of the main things learned from this campaign is that the name of the game of airborne imaging spectroscopy is waiting.. Waiting for airplanes to be available, waiting for good weather, waiting for repairs..
The UAV under development by Norut IT will probably save some "waiting time", as it requires minimun of personell. However, the test flight with complete instrumentation showed that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to secure the system. Both on instrumentation and the setup of these (e.g. shutter time, ISO etc..), and on the aircraft itself (balancing, engine tuning, autopilot tuning). The Dornier carried system is fairly well tested, and worked fine during good conditions. There is of course room for improvement there as well, e.g. developing sets of routines for each experiment. The GPSCam experiment worked well, but was quite slow, especially when considering the small size of the transferred image.
